Some tips for leasing and using a rental car:

 

Look for lower rates on the internet, coupons and some social media sites.

 

Sometimes you can get a cheaper rate when you do not rent the car from the airport area. You will get charged airport fees. Some car rental places offer shuttle service to the airport, so it possible for you to avoid the airport car rental shuttle.

 

Be careful for the price. It may show a fee that you think you will get, then the taxes and fees are added on. Make sure you find out the total price when you make the reservation.

 

Use the weekly rates instead of daily rates. For example one rental car company will charge less for a 7 day rental then a daily rate,  

 

The decision for the extra insurance may depend up your own insurance company. Some rental car places require more coverage. If you already have collision coverage already you do not need additional coverage. Also, if you pay with a credit card, the credit card company may cover whatever your insurance may not cover, You would have to check with your insurance company and credit card company.

 

The rental car will be happy to rent you a GPS. You can use your smartphone to get directions. You can print it out at the hotel’s business center.

 

Familiarize yourself with the car when you pick it up from the rental place. Make a mental note where the gas tank, wipers and lights are. Some states require that in rain the lights should be on and use the wipers.

 

Make sure to go over the car with the attendant for any scratches, dings and issues with the car before you leave and when you drop off the car.
